Terracotta craftsmanship
Discover the art of working with terracotta in the craft shops of Trequanda, in the heart of Tuscany
How is a terracotta done? What materials are used and which are the processing techniques to realize one of the most typical artifacts of Tuscany? You will find it out with the Valdichiana Living Tour, which will take you directly inside a workshop of master craftsmen in Trequanda, in the green heart of Tuscany. The municipality of Trequanda and its hamlets of Castelmuzio and Petroio are a point of reference of the whole territory for the production of plates, cups, vases, bowls and many other products made with care, using ancient and new production techniques. In the laboratory, under the guidance of an expert craftsman, you will actively participate in the processing of clay to create an object in terracotta.
In the village of Petroio you will visit the Terracotta Museum, an itinerary created to tell the story of terracotta production in the area, from the quarries where the clay is extracted, to the modern design artifacts, passing through the terracotta inserts, also possible to admire outside, along the streets of the town.
