Montepulciano

Albo Mazzetti’s laboratory-ateleir is located in the historic center of Montepulciano. In the past the town hosted one of the most important Italian mosaic schools, and today Albo is the last of the heirs of this artistic tradition.

Together with other colleagues, he has created mosaics for the Sanctuary of the Black Madonna of Tindari in Sicily and for numerous churches in the United States, where his work is particularly appreciated. The mosaicist’s art requires numerous artistic talents: drawing, working natural stone, glass, but also terracotta or mother-of-pearl, combining colors and applying tesserae, all with extreme precision and care.

Albo opens his workshop every morning and allows passers-by to directly witness the creation of his works, mosaics representing Tuscan landscapes, Madonnas and famous paintings, from Etruscan art to reproductions of works by Vincent Van Gogh.
